"alef" "beh" and "seh"

This line serves as an emphasis to the previous line, regarding the importance of learning the language in Islamic culture. Hosseini provides us as readers with both very clear imagery and symbolism. He says "the rise of each alef, the curve of each beh, and the two dots of seh." Hosseini gives us the image of how each of the three are unique and the process by which they are formed. With such specificity in each of formations of the three, it is clear that the language is again very important to the culture of Islam. This line also uses the literary device symbolism; the "alef, beh, and seh," are all literal symbols themselves when used in writing, and symbols of the tradition of calligraphy that is upheld in Muslim tradition.
